Death Penalty

Pro side: Supporters of juvenile death penalty say that the punishment should be based on not the age of the person but the severity of the crime. Whatever was done could not be changed by the age of the person. For example, Patricia Baeuerlen was murdered by a 16-year-old boy. Patricia was begging for her life, explaining that she has kids, but he killed her anyway. Supporters say it isn't "cruel and unusual" to give him the death penalty. The only "cruel and unusual" thing was the brutality of the murder.

Con side: Critics say that because of juveniles' brains are not yet fully developed and are less mature than one of an adult, they shouldn't be punished like an adult. Critics also point out that society generally recognizes the lack of maturity in juveniles by setting age limits for voting, driving, and other things. Critics also point out that the human brain continues to develope in the 20s.

I dont think the death penalty should be for children, but I think they should kepp them in prison for a long time and give them special classes.

I am for death penalty. Whether they're 16 or a grown adult, they should be punished because it was their actions that put them in the situation.

Death penalties are not right for kids, because they do immature decisions. When they grow up, they will eventually become responsible. Juvenile Hall is a better alternative, NOT death penalties.

The death penalty shouldn't be for kids. Kids, especially teenagers, make choices on impulse and don't really think things through. They will become mature as they grow older.

I do not agree on the con side about the kids not matured enough. I think they would still learn common sense. Unless they are mentally challenged then thats different but those people should be watched closely

I think that children should not be given death penalties but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be punished.

no death penalty for children unless they get into trouble a lot! but children should be given a chance because they are still learning
